Again clips from some of Shelleighs Emails....
All is still going well out here. This week we have had wonderful hot weather. Every day has been baking hot. The Circuit Overseer says that he only stays out on first call etc until 10:30 as he has had skin cancer already and doesnt want to get it again. Luke burnt his back real bad and had only been outside for 15 mins.
Luke has some wonderful studies, really good and very exciting to be on.One man who we are quite excited about is doing really well. His wife wasn't happy about us visiting and was very happy to make that clear to us. But today for the first time she stood very close to where we studying(pretending to do something) and before she knew it she was joining in and agreeing with what we were saying. Was really nice. We are really enjoying the study. I am studying with a woman. She has her studies Tuesday afternoon. I am getting on a little better with the language and having a study is helping as it forces me to speak Spanish.
I dont know if you remember but in the flat we are in there were three ladies who moved to a place called Zumba to start a congregation. They are getting on really well there and although they haven't been announced as a cong yet they are doing great. The three girls do all the meetings themselves. They do the book study and watchtower. They also have to do the Thursday meeting amongst themselves. ( they aren't allowed to invite people to the Thursday m,meeting as it isn't a congregation yet). Well, one of the ladies has just gone back to the states and the other lady (mel) has just left back for England as she has a very serious operation to have. This leaves only the one girl to do a lot of work!. She has to take all the meetings, conduct all the studies which means she has 28 studies a week to do. Some times it takes a day to walk to the study(morning to walk there and afternoon to walk back). They are such an encouraging example and are really getting blessed for it. They said that they can feel Jehovah s Spirit being poured on them. We love it when they come to visit they have such exciting stories.
Luke has been so busy in the congregation. He has been taking all the meetings for field service and has his own book study group. They also have given him a lot of number 1 talks and this week he has it on Noah's log. It is hard enough in English! He probably has about 6-7 studies a week which keeps him busy out on the serve. Some of which are doing really well.
Lucas has a wonderful study. His name is Bob* (*names have been changed) and he has gone through the require brochure. anyway at the end he says "shall we do a review and move onto the knowledge book" and Bob says no cos he wants to go through it again but this time with his wife. His wife now sits on every study, she is a VERY pretty little thing and very sweet. They are lesson 6 and on Thursday Luke couldn't take the study as he had too much to do for the meeting. So Bobs wife calls and says Bob has gone away to get more stuff for their shop but can we still come cos she wants to study. So I go (as Luke cant) and it was an amazing study. She has been reading the bible with Bob and knew the answer to all the questions! At the end she says that her family are saying she is atheist and she says the following "They say this because I have got rid of all my idols as I realise they are bad. They say I am turning atheist but this is this is the closest I have ever been to God, and now for the first time I am beginning to learn the bible" Was so nice. And Luke also studies with this little kid. His parents are just studying but he comes every meeting with his brothers and sisters. Anyway on Saturday Luke asks him if he wants to sit with us at the meeting. He does and keeps saying thankyou all the time. On thursday Luke is on sound and I am sitting by myself, I notice his family walk in and I wander where is he? Then to my surprise I see these little eyes looking at me as the little kid (hes about9) walks past me and sits in the seat next to me with a HUGE grin on his face. After the meeting he has this really polite little conversation and then says "same place next time?" It was so funny. |
