I dont know whether anyone is actually reading these but there we go. It will still be good for us to look at in years to come to remember what it was like.

So we stayed in the Bethel in Ecuador 3 nights in total. Just caught up on sleep and chilled out. A really nice atmosphere there. For those that are interested in construction they are trying to build about 50 halls a year here. They have 4 teams of 8 bros and sisters that split up go to the areas and work with the local bros and sisters to build a hall, they try to do it in 2 months. We met a sister in Bethel who came to Ecuador to visit friends and applied to volunteer and remained on a build 3 months, so it sounds fairly easy to get on, but dont quote me! (bad idea to put it here then!)

Also there are 2 foreign languages here that are having quite a success - Sign language and Quechua (prob spelt wrong). They have translation departments for both these in Bethel but what they are translating is kept top secret.

We flew from Guayaquil to Loja on Saturday morning. The flights were only £26 each and it cut the 9 hour bus journey into a 30 minute flight. The trip from the airport to the city really was great. Wonderful views. The airport is at 1400 metres and Loja is at 2200 metres.

We booked into the Hostal Londres when we turned up (Josh - its where we stayed for a week or so when we first turned up). We then went on a flat hunt all day, saw a few nice places. The Watchtower and Public talk are on a Saturday night, so we went to the meeting. It really was fanstastic to see everyone again. They welcomed us and Shelleigh answered up a couple of times too, so she is getting stuck in. There are 2 elders and 3 servants at the moment but it looks like 1 servant is moving very soon.

After that we visited a sister who used to live in Loja. She used to travel every now and then to Zumba, 7 hour bus trip from here. There is no Cong there but she and 2 other sisters have moved there, and conduct all the meetings themselves. They seem to be having a huge success and all said it is great to be working virgin territory. We went to see her because her appartment here in Loja is empty while they are in Zumba.

So the appartment where it looks like we will be staying is great. Its a 20 min walk into the center (where our hall and territory is), but that will keep us fit and we can street work on the way, or get bikes eventually. We have 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, one massive mumma of a kitchen and living room. It has a telephone and hot water which is rare to find in Ecuador. We can buy the furniture of the sisters when they return so that should save us a lot of money. Oh and it costs $150 a month. It is too big for us but is cheap compared to other things we saw and because of the size it does mean that you could easily share it and not be on top of eachother. (so there is plenty of room for visitors)

Yesterday we went on the ministry for the first time. Shelleigh worked with Barbara Schweizer her life story is in Awake 98 8/4.

People here are very open about Religion and its very easy to start conversations with people as they ask you what you are doing here. The guy we bought the fridge from asked for a Bible Study straight out. Also one interested person has been coming to meetings for a little bit but there have been no brothers to study with him, so we should pick up studies very easily.

Anyway this has gone on a bit so thats all for now

Luke and Shelleigh.
